Astragulus strengthens the immune reservoir and Wei Qi. It is a superior tonic used for rebuilding depleted endocrine/immune activity (Fu Zheng therapy). Thus it is useful for chronic lung deficiency, as part of a cancer protocol and for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Astragalus also lowers blood sugar levels, inhibits ulcers, protects the heart from Coxsackie B virus and strengthens the upright Qi, making it useful for organ prolapse. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Astragalus is also used for congestive heart failure with Dong Quai, Chinese Salvia, and Tienchi Ginseng.
